An official presentation of the Centre of sustainable energy development took place in Moscow. Among those present were Victor B. KHRISTENKO, Minister of Industry and Energy of Russian Federation, Walter R. ERDELEN, Assistant Director–General for Natural Sciences, UNESCO, Andrei G. REUS, Deputy Minister for Industry and Energy of Russian Federation, Alexandr V. YAKOVENKO, Deputy Minister for foreign affaires of Russian Federation.

The 176th session of the UNESCO Executive Board discussed a report by the Director-General of UNESCO assessing the feasibility of establishing the “Sustainable Energy Development Centre” as a category 2 centre placed under the auspices of UNESCO in Moscow, Russian Federation.

Decision of the 176th session of the UNESCO Executive Board to recommend to the General Conference at its 34th session to approve the establishment of the Sustainable Energy Development Centre in Moscow, Russian Federation, as a centre under the auspices of UNESCO and to authorize the Director-General to sign the Agreement with RF.

The 34th Session of General Conference of UNESCO in Paris adopted a resolution on establishing the Sustainable Energy Development Centre in Moscow as a category 2 center under the auspices of UNESCO.

 

V. Putin, Chairman of The Government of Russian Federation signed an Order № 1162 as of 12.08.2008 “Concerning Agreement between the Government of Russian Federation and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) of establishing and activity provision of International Sustainable Energy Development Centre under the auspices of UNESCO in Moscow”.

 

The Director-General of UNESCO, Mr Koichiro Matsuura, and Mr Sergey Shmatko, Minister of Energy of the Russian Federation, signed an Agreement concerning the establishment and operation of the International Sustainable Energy Development Centre in Moscow as a category 2 Centre under the auspices of UNESCO.
